The First of Her Kind

In my family, I am kind of the first of my kind. I was adopted. I am not going to deny the effect being adopted has had on my life because believe it or not, it has, hugely and greatly, though you will never comprehend that unless you are also adopted. It is life-changing, truly. So, we start there. In my family, immediate and extended I was and still am, the only one adopted. My family is really sweet, all of them. They're all really nice and have a softer side to them, and are just so dang thoughtful! Guess who is the odd one out there? Not saying that I am not loving, I am and I really care deeply about people, but I'll be extremely, ridiculously, real with you. Painfully so. I will tell you exactly what you don't want to hear. Let's have a little pep talk. Mostly because I need it. Theater is hard because it's not about writing papers and turning in book work (okay, most of the time...*coughScottcough*). It's not about labs or essays or exams. It is different than any other classes or major you have in college because it requires YOU as a human, as a person. Theater can kill you, if you're not careful because we as actors are running and running and running and giving and giving and giving and going and going and going all day every day. No, we don't necessarily have three papers to write but we do have two monologues to memorize and a scene to work on and rehearsal to go to and give 110% at and, oh wait, we still have three papers to write because we are expected to take those General Education classes (while no one else is expected to take extensive art classes). Okay, ...

Scenes Round #2!

Scene time once again! I hate scenes but I love them so, we will see how this goes-- If you are curious as to the scene, my partner and I are doing, it is a scene from Crimes of the Heart, a fantastically funny tragicomedy written by Beth Henley. Check it out! You can access it, as well as many other plays, from Twentieth Century Drama, or TDC.
